Barbara loves books, whether reading or writing them. In her spare time, she pursues this passion. Her essay, Unexpected, appeared in the award-winning anthology, Child of My Child: Poems and Stories for Grandparents, and her short stories have appeared in Stupefying Stories, The Petigru Review, and moonShine review.
Recently, her essay, Home Is Where The Heart Is, won First Place in the Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Contest. In 2012, her story, Books, Brandys, and Blue-Hairs, qualified as a semi-finalist in the William Faulkner-Wisdom Writing Competition conducted by Pirate's Alley.
She, also, reads and evaluates the slushpile for an online literary journal, Stupefying Stories.

Barbara served two years on the Board of Directors of South Carolina Writers' Workshop (SCWW), acting as Conference Co-chair in 2008 and President in 2009. Currently, she is the President of the Greenville, SC Chapter.
Barbara's creative blog An Eclectic Muse examines a variety of topics as related to her life and writing. She is currently pursuing publication of her fantasy novel, The Watchers of Moniah.
